P5/6 have had a busy start to the term! In maths, we have been learning about money, specifically focusing on budgeting and applying our knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to complete calculations and word problems. In numeracy, we are really enjoying completing in a 'Cowboy Multiplication Challenge'- January's winners are Lena, Charlie, Chloe, Dilash, Gemma and Jessica. Well done!
In literacy, we have been learning about the rules for using direct speech in our written work. There are four rules which we need to remember - inverted commas around the words which are actually spoken, punctuation at the end of speech, capital letter at the start of spoken text and take a new line when a different person (or character) speaks. We are trying really hard to remember these rules! Our writing focus this term is imaginative writing and we are nearly finished creating a piece of writing about time travel. Why don't you ask us about what happens in our story?
Our science focus has been 'Space'. We have created mnemonics to help us to remember the order of the planets, we have been learning interesting facts about each of the planets and we have been learning about the importance of the sun. We hope to learn about space travel in the next few weeks.
Finally, we have dedicated lots of our time to learning lines, songs and practising our acting skills for our School Show, Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits. We are growing in confidence every day and our teacher is really proud of the effort we are all applying to this. We hope you will come to see us perform on the big stage at Howden Park Centre on Tuesday 19th March!
